Woman smiling and holding onto a sailboat's rigging on the water at sunset with mountains and a city skyline in the background.

I lived in South Africa for seven years. During that time, I went back to the Cape and the Winelands fifteen times, maybe more. Long weekends, week-long trips. I'm still discovering new places.

The wines are extraordinary, a winemaking tradition the French brought over in the 17th century, grown in soil that does something completely its own with it. The sunsets. The mountains. A particular kind of quiet that I've never quite found anywhere else.

This is a place I keep coming back to. I want to share it properly.

What to Expect

Eight days in the Winelands, and you'll never look at a wine list the same way again. Mornings tasting, pairing, and blending with experts who make it genuinely fun. Afternoons are yours: Cape Town, its region, or just relaxing

The Region

Six South African vineyards made the 2025 World's 50 Best list. Powerful Cabernets, coastal Pinot Noir, old-vine Chenin Blanc, and Pinotage, all within an hour of each other. More approachable than most European wine regions.

❋ The Group

Women-only, eight guests maximum. Small enough that you'll actually get to know everyone, large enough that you're not stuck with the same two people. Real conversations, and connections that last well beyond the trip.

❋ The Experience

This isn't a course. No exams, no pressure to memorise. You'll develop a genuine feel for wine, the kind that comes from drinking good bottles slowly, in good company, with people who love talking about it.

❋ What You Leave With

A wine journal. A bottle you blended yourself. But mostly a shift in how you see wine, as something you actually understand. You'll walk into any restaurant, any dinner party, and know exactly what to say.

Day by Day

  • Your airport transfer takes you straight to a private villa in the heart of the Winelands. Drop your bags, take in the vineyard views, and meet the women you'll share the next eight days with over a welcome dinner.

  • Your first session with your wine educator covers the story of wine: how grapes become wine, what makes South Africa one of the most exciting wine countries in the world. Afternoon off.

  • Morning session on white wines and Cap Classique - South Africa's answer to Champagne. You'll taste through Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines, learning what makes each distinctive. Afternoon completely yours.

  • Guided hike or bike ride through the surrounding vineyards. Your guide explains the varietals growing in the ground and why this valley produces the wines it does. Back by midday. After dinner, the Wanderphi wine aroma game: fun, competitive, no wrong answers.

  • No session. No agenda. Nothing you're supposed to do. Sleep in, work by the pool, read, or join a suggested excursion — Hermanus for whale watching (November is peak season) or Cape Town.

  • Morning on the reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz, red blends. How to identify and pair them. Afternoon cellar tour at a wine estate, from fermentation tanks to oak barrels.

  • Your hero day. A morning at a winery where you blend your own bottle under expert guidance: you choose the varietals, the ratios, design your own label. You leave with a bottle made with your own hands. In the evening, your private chef prepares a wine pairing dinner.

  • Most flights depart in the evening, so the day is yours. Rest, explore, or share a last glass on the terrace. Airport drop-off in the afternoon.
